Job Description

• Leadership/Administration:
o Direct and oversee all aspects of the music ministry (including Spanish Masses and French Mass) at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church.
o Develop and expand the parish choir by recruiting, auditioning, and training new members.
o Engage and manage the services of contract musicians and cantors.
o Develop schedules monthly for cantor assignments and music schedules.
o Create worship aids as needed for weddings, funerals, and special liturgical events.
o Maintain and ensure the proper functioning of the church's musical instruments, including the organ.
o Stay updated on liturgical music trends, arranging opportunities for continued learning and growth.

• Liturgy:
o Coordinate and accompany four masses held on Saturdays and Sundays.
o Conduct and hold rehearsals for the Parish Choir; foster musical growth and teamwork within the choir.
o Coordinate and play music for holy days, weddings, funerals, and other special liturgical events as required.
o Assist the school music program, including playing at all school masses and special events, including graduation ceremonies.
o Collaborate with the Pastor and other liturgical staff to select appropriate music that complements the liturgical season and themes and that resonates with the spiritual message of the liturgy.

• Outreach and Community-Building:
o Cultivate a culture of active participation within the congregation, encouraging a "singing parish" atmosphere.
o Plan, organize, and lead two annual concerts that showcase the musical talents of the parish.
o Foster a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment where parishioners of all ages can engage in the music ministry.
o Attend regular staff meetings and retreats.
o The duties of this position are expected to adapt and grow in response to the parish vision.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• A strong understanding of Catholic Liturgy and Liturgical Music.
• Proficiency in playing the organ and piano and accompanying vocalists.
• Strong musical background with experience in choral conducting and directing.
• Ability to lead and inspire a diverse group of musicians and choir members.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff, choir members, and parishioners.
• Organizational skills to manage and oversee the music ministry's various components.
• Flexibility to adapt to different liturgical styles and musical preferences.
• Must have or be able to obtain the Diocese of Dallas Safe Environment Certification.


Education and Experience:
• B.A. in Music or another related field.
• Prior experience working in a church or similar religious setting is preferred.
