Job Description
Prince of Peace (POP) is a Catholic school that educates students beginning at the age of 3 through 8th grade. Position Summary: School Counselor
The School Counselor fulfills the mission of Prince of Peace Catholic School by assisting the faculty and administration in the development of a guidance program and counseling students in areas of social/emotional and academic domains. The School Counselor provides personal, social, and behavioral guidance to all students on campus. The School Counselor is a member of the leadership team. This position reports to and is evaluated by the principal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Prepares and implements the guidance program for students
- Meets with students individually or in small groups and assists with social/emotional issues and offers referral options for outside counseling
- Communicates with parents as necessary regarding students’ social and emotional health and/or issues
- Works with school faculty and staff to develop plans for maintaining the well-being of individual students and of the student population as a whole
- Teaches weekly guidance classes based on virtue education and Character Strong program
- Facilitates and serves as a faculty resource for Virtue Base Restorative Discipline
- Coordinates relevant outside speakers for students, teachers, and parents
- Collaborates with colleagues to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
- Coordinates with faculty and staff concerning student achievement and other needs
- Maintains current and accurate records according to school and diocesan policies
- Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese/local administration
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
- Continues personal professional development through association membership in professional and diocesan organizations
Reporting to the principal, the School Counselor should:
- Support the school’s mission and be active in the life and culture of the school and parish community
- Represent POP at community functions as needed
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures of Prince of Peace Catholic School and the Diocese of Dallas
- Initiate or develop other programs relative to the job description
- Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned by the president/principal
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policies of the Diocese of Dallas and Prince of Peace Catholic School.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and competitive with local schools. Benefit package included.
FLSA Status (Fair Labor Standards Act): Exempt

Hours: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm

- Knowledge of human development and adolescent issues
- Able to respond to crises effectively
- Skill in job-appropriate technology
Education & Experience:
- Master's degree in Counseling or master’s degree in School Psychology or Social Work with courses included or added that address theories and methods in counseling, developmental psychology, and child development.
- Must meet the minimum requirements as set forth by the Diocese and TCCB ED
- Preferred minimum 3 years’ experience in education, school counseling field or related area.
